Hello,

I am running an Advent desktop PC and its stats are as follows; Intel Core i5-2310 CPU @ 2.90GHz 8GB RAM Win 7 64 bit.

The problem I am having is when ever i boot up the computer it shows the Advent logo-screen where I can access the boot menu etc but then it goes to a black screen with a cursor/underscore flashing in the top left... This screen stays for quite a while and I am not sure if it stops because of a key I have pressed or just because it has run its course but after it disappears the computer goes back to the logo-screen for a moment and proceeds to boot up as normal except slightly slower than usual...

It is a relatively new computer and it has no problems running at all once the boot up is complete it is fast and as friendly as ever...

This problem only started about a week ago and I can not think of any reason for it...

do you have any usb sticks or Esata HD's plugged in? These could delay your boot process. Also some BIOSes have a 'fast boot' option but it should be on by default.

I would go into the BIOS and just do a factory default setting restore and see if it works.

I don't have any external drives plugged in no only a printer plugged into the PC and also if i do a factory reset in my BIOS what will it change about the PC?

If you haven't changed anything in the BIOS yourself since you got the PC, then it will not really change anything.

If you haven't changed anything in the BIOS yourself since you got the PC, then it will not really change anything.

As said above, it will not adversely affect anything related to your system in most cases. The hope is that it will clear any memory corruption related to the BIOS. See How To Clear CMOS (Reset BIOS) for more information.

If you have multiple hard drives inside the system and are running a RAID configuration, it will reset the RAID and could wipe the data, so backup any important data prior to resetting your BIOS if you have RAID. If you are unsure whether you have RAID, ask your manufacturer.
