Windows 7 - Registry corrupts after restarting, every time. |

Registry corrupts after restarting, every time. So I'm on my 6th fresh install. Install is on a brand new 10k rpm HDD, installs perfectly fine. Windows boots up. All is well. Works great, run some windows updates, all is well. But once I reboot the computer, Windows boots directly into that repair utility and tells me the registry is corrupt. I cannot restore to a back up, the repair utility does not work.
Only solution has been to reformat/partition and do another fresh install. With the same results.
I'm thinking one of the windows updates is causing this. I tried rebooting without installing any updates. Works fine. Anyone have any idea why this is happening?

What are the updates? Maybe post a screen shot of all the ones you're installing. And you could also take a good look in the Event Viewer, see if you can find any relevant information about it and post that.
There's also Disk Check you could run. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Airbot 2.0 OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 CPU Core i7 920 (D0) @ 4Ghz, *26c idle *65c full load on air Motherboard Asus P6X58D Premium - Sata 6Gb/s - USB 3.0 Memory 12GB DDR3 Corsair Dominator -CMD12GX3M6A1600C8 at 1600MHz Graphics Card EVGA GeForce GTX 480 -Aftermaket Accelero Xtreme Plus cooler Sound Card ASUS Xonar D2X Monitor(s) Displays 1 LG 24" Flatron W2453V-PF 1 Samsung 24" P2450H both 2ms RT Screen Resolution 1920x1080@60hz Keyboard Logitech Wireless MK700 Mouse Logitech Wireless MK700 PSU Corsair HX1000W Case Cooler Master HAF 932 Cooling Case Fans *3 230mm, *1 140mm/CPU - *Tuniq Tower 120 Extreme Hard Drives 1 OCZ Vertex2 180GB SSD

Disk Check found no errors.
I'm currently installing them one by one and rebooting after installing to try to narrow it down. These have been sucessfully done so far: Attachment 32759
This is the last of the Important Updates (though I've seen someone have an issue with it so I may do the Optional ones first.) Attachment 32760
And the Optional Updates to go: Attachment 32761
I think there's usually a few more but my unactivated time is up, already wasted one activation over this crap. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 CPU Athlon 64 X2 4800+ Memory 2 GB Graphics Card Dual Geforce 8800GT Sound Card SB Audigy Monitor(s) Displays Samsung SyncMaster T260 Screen Resolution 1920 x 1200 Keyboard Saitek Eclipse PSU SILVERSTONE ST1000 1000W Case SilverStone TJ-06 Wind Tunnel Internet Speed Comcast Cable |

Leave the Raid controller and ACPI utility updates for last. One of them could potentially be responsible. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number self built OS 7600.20510 x86 CPU P4 550 3.4 GHz HT running at 3.5 GHz Motherboard MSI PM8M3-V (MS-7211 v1.x) Micro-ATX mainboard Memory OCZ 2 GB(2x1GB) DDR400mHz running @ 414 mHz Graphics Card HIS Radeon HD 3850 IceQ 3 Turbo HDMI Dual DL-DVI AGP Sound Card MOTU Traveler firewire studio interface 192 kHz 24 bit Monitor(s) Displays 22" widescreen Acer X223W LCD, 17" Compaq P75 CRT Screen Resolution 1680x1050 and 1280x1024 Keyboard Logitch Classical Keyboard 200 Mouse Logitech Mediaplay cordless PSU 350W generic Case Cybertronpc, it glows blue Cooling stock cpu fan, Ice-Q 3 gpu and system, many case fans Hard Drives SATA I x2 WD, 400 GB and 120 GB, SATA 2 WD Caviar Black 1 TB Internet Speed 1792/448 kbits/sec Other Info SATA II PCI fake RAID adapter, 1 GB Readyboost, original ATI Remote Wonder (even works with WMC perfectly), Logitech Rumblepad 2 game controller x2 |

Alright, a few interesting things.
After installing the Realtek driver (Which should be the integrated audio driver) this popped up. I just selected recommended. I don't think it's an issue. Attachment 32763
The SB Audigy Driver installed no problem. Same with the Samsung (Monitor) Driver.
The graphics driver failed (partially, Nvidia control panel functions just fine which was installed by that). Failure screen: Attachment 32766
Windows 7 did not boot properly and took me to the repairer. It reverted it to a previous restore point (Oddly enough, it I say yes, restore: it fails to and I'm forced to reinstall Windows 7 BUT if I tell it no: it restores and allows me back in). It greeted me with this screen: Attachment 32764
Also through previous testing Windows Media Player had stopped working, so I tried to open it after this misboot and got this screen: Attachment 32765
I did not try to install the Raid controller and ACPI utility yet.
After the restore it put me back to this state on updates: Attachment 32768
And of course, media player will not load and the only way to fix it is to reinstall Windows 7.. Sigh. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 CPU Athlon 64 X2 4800+ Memory 2 GB Graphics Card Dual Geforce 8800GT Sound Card SB Audigy Monitor(s) Displays Samsung SyncMaster T260 Screen Resolution 1920 x 1200 Keyboard Saitek Eclipse PSU SILVERSTONE ST1000 1000W Case SilverStone TJ-06 Wind Tunnel Internet Speed Comcast Cable |

Locate and install KB974817 to upgrade and repair WMP at the same time. If you already did that anytime previously, uninstall the KB974817 and run the patch again. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number self built OS 7600.20510 x86 CPU P4 550 3.4 GHz HT running at 3.5 GHz Motherboard MSI PM8M3-V (MS-7211 v1.x) Micro-ATX mainboard Memory OCZ 2 GB(2x1GB) DDR400mHz running @ 414 mHz Graphics Card HIS Radeon HD 3850 IceQ 3 Turbo HDMI Dual DL-DVI AGP Sound Card MOTU Traveler firewire studio interface 192 kHz 24 bit Monitor(s) Displays 22" widescreen Acer X223W LCD, 17" Compaq P75 CRT Screen Resolution 1680x1050 and 1280x1024 Keyboard Logitch Classical Keyboard 200 Mouse Logitech Mediaplay cordless PSU 350W generic Case Cybertronpc, it glows blue Cooling stock cpu fan, Ice-Q 3 gpu and system, many case fans Hard Drives SATA I x2 WD, 400 GB and 120 GB, SATA 2 WD Caviar Black 1 TB Internet Speed 1792/448 kbits/sec Other Info SATA II PCI fake RAID adapter, 1 GB Readyboost, original ATI Remote Wonder (even works with WMC perfectly), Logitech Rumblepad 2 game controller x2 |

What build of Windows 7 is this you're installing, and where did you get it from?
Have you looked in the Event Viewer at all for any relevant information there? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Airbot 2.0 OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 CPU Core i7 920 (D0) @ 4Ghz, *26c idle *65c full load on air Motherboard Asus P6X58D Premium - Sata 6Gb/s - USB 3.0 Memory 12GB DDR3 Corsair Dominator -CMD12GX3M6A1600C8 at 1600MHz Graphics Card EVGA GeForce GTX 480 -Aftermaket Accelero Xtreme Plus cooler Sound Card ASUS Xonar D2X Monitor(s) Displays 1 LG 24" Flatron W2453V-PF 1 Samsung 24" P2450H both 2ms RT Screen Resolution 1920x1080@60hz Keyboard Logitech Wireless MK700 Mouse Logitech Wireless MK700 PSU Corsair HX1000W Case Cooler Master HAF 932 Cooling Case Fans *3 230mm, *1 140mm/CPU - *Tuniq Tower 120 Extreme Hard Drives 1 OCZ Vertex2 180GB SSD

Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. Purchased directly from Microsoft via Expertzone.
I'm not finding an official source for KB974817, only torrents. Hopefully I'll find a legit one.
What is this Event Viewer you speak of? | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 CPU Athlon 64 X2 4800+ Memory 2 GB Graphics Card Dual Geforce 8800GT Sound Card SB Audigy Monitor(s) Displays Samsung SyncMaster T260 Screen Resolution 1920 x 1200 Keyboard Saitek Eclipse PSU SILVERSTONE ST1000 1000W Case SilverStone TJ-06 Wind Tunnel Internet Speed Comcast Cable |

Torrents are good for this. It's a WU patch from Microsoft. You can't fake those or tamper. I'm sure it's possible but out of the realm of anyone that would care to bother. I'd upload you my copy but I'm x86.
You won't find it "legit" as it was released by underground and not public. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number self built OS 7600.20510 x86 CPU P4 550 3.4 GHz HT running at 3.5 GHz Motherboard MSI PM8M3-V (MS-7211 v1.x) Micro-ATX mainboard Memory OCZ 2 GB(2x1GB) DDR400mHz running @ 414 mHz Graphics Card HIS Radeon HD 3850 IceQ 3 Turbo HDMI Dual DL-DVI AGP Sound Card MOTU Traveler firewire studio interface 192 kHz 24 bit Monitor(s) Displays 22" widescreen Acer X223W LCD, 17" Compaq P75 CRT Screen Resolution 1680x1050 and 1280x1024 Keyboard Logitch Classical Keyboard 200 Mouse Logitech Mediaplay cordless PSU 350W generic Case Cybertronpc, it glows blue Cooling stock cpu fan, Ice-Q 3 gpu and system, many case fans Hard Drives SATA I x2 WD, 400 GB and 120 GB, SATA 2 WD Caviar Black 1 TB Internet Speed 1792/448 kbits/sec Other Info SATA II PCI fake RAID adapter, 1 GB Readyboost, original ATI Remote Wonder (even works with WMC perfectly), Logitech Rumblepad 2 game controller x2 |

From the search bar, enter event viewer, and navigate to the apps section... if there are any critical errors, then take a screen shot using the snip tool and upload it... | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP Pavillion 601 OS Windows 7 Ultimate CPU Intel P4 3.4Ghz Dual Processor Motherboard Austek Memory 2GB Graphics Card Integrated 82915G Chipset 128MB Sound Card Intel HD integtrated Monitor(s) Displays HP2009m 20' HD Wide Screen Screen Resolution 1600x900 Hard Drives WD 250GB WD 500GB External Internet Speed 30mb Registry corrupts after restarting, every time. problems?
