Windows 7 - nvlddmkm BSOD fix

I had the nvlddmkm.sys BSOD for months and months with Vista Home Premium x64 and decided to try and upgrade to Windows 7 hoping that it might go away. Of course it did not and I had the same problems.

Well after looking around these Forums I saw three or four nvlddmkm.sys files with different dates in my C:/ Windows/ System 32/ drivers and DriverStore folders.

I think (it was yesterday) I was able to right click on the one in C:/ Windows/ System 32/ drivers and delete it. (searched nv*.sys and looked for nvlddmkm.sys)

But the C:/ Windows/ System 32/ DriverStore right click said I didn't have permission or something that would not allow me to delete these three or four files.

So I downloaded this Take Ownership ( Take Ownership Shortcut ) and was then able to right click and delete the dreaded nvlddmkm.sys files in DriverStore.

I re-booted the PC to Safe Mode and installed the latest drivers and crossed my fingers when I re-booted hoping I wouldn't the same old BSOD I had gotten for a year.

Well it worked. DESKTOP !!!

Now I'm just trying to clean up a year's worth of junk with Auslogic's Disk Defrag ( Auslogics Disk Defrag - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com ) and get that computer back up to speed.

I've run Auslogics Boost Speed and the hard disk is still slow. Can anyone help me here? I was considering reformatting but I can't figure out how to do that. LOL

P.S. - the nvlddmkm.sys files are still there (and in my newer computer as well) but since I don't get and BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH on Shut downs or re-boots, I'm leaving well enough alone. LOL
