Windows 7 - HP laptop freezes after shutting lid

So I just upgraded my laptop to windows 7, took me a little bit to get all the drivers (on a 2nd disk from HP) installed but other than that it seemed like I had a clean install. Everything seemed to be working fine until I closed the lid. I noticed the light on the back that is lit up when the laptop is open and in use stayed on a lot longer than it normally does, when I opened it the screen was off and would not turn back on. The strange part was the mute button and the wireless button both were still responsive but the screen remained off. I had to hold the power button down to force the restart.

I checked the event log and found an error, source:WMI and event ID: 10

If anyone has any idea on how to fix this I would be extremely grateful.

Oh the laptop is a HP pavillion dv6 1230us. I've only had it for a couple of months and it has worked perfectly up until this.
