Empty Navigation pane.

Hi all,

Been reading the forums for a while now, and only just registered, so hello

I have had Windows 7 installed for quite a while now and all seems ok'ish.

My problem is, that when ever I go to open or save files from various programs first noticed in Firefox, the navigation pane is empty and subsequently I can not change to the desired location.

I can not place the time/date it started so I don't know which (if any) restore point to use.

I can see the navigation pane in Windows Explorer but not from a program.

Any Ideas would be appreciated.

Cheers

Spud

Thanks for the screen-shot

Make sure that you have the Navigation Toolbar and other toolbars visible: View > Toolbars.
If you do not see that item then click the
Restore Default Set
button in the View > Toolbars > Customize window.

Hi, Capt.Jack,

Not sure what that will do for other programs like IE, Opera, DaemonTools, imgburn, nero, but I'll give it a go.

I apologize . Did you apply any custom theme ?? Its worth trying it in a New Windows User Profile. So we know whether something is wrong with the Windows Profile or not

Hope this helps

I hadn't tried that, I have just changed the theme on my profile and it made no change..

I then added a new profile left everything alone, went straight to Firefox and it is still the same

So it appears to be not the profile.

Hello Spudd, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You might see if running a sfc /scannow command may be able to help?

As a test, uninstall and reinstall one of the programs that this happens in to see if it is a progam or Windows 7 issue.

If none of the above help, then you might consider a repair install.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Just a quick update.

Thanks Brink for pointing me to sfc /scannow this showed a lot of corruption in the log, it was a little hard reading it as the file itself was 32Mb and it took ages to anything with it.

I was then going to run a repair from the Windows 7 DVD but stupidly let it start up from desktop and not booting from it. I didn't get the repair option and was reluctant to stop the install just incase it screwed the hdd up which I would then have to mess about with mbr and so on..

Any way.. the error (as you may have guessed) has now gone, but I have no idea what caused it and no idea how to correct it if it happens again.
