Windows 7 - Random mouse freezes, sound loops, driver crashes

Random mouse freezes, sound loops, driver crashes

It's just done it 3 times whilst I typed the title.

The system will just randomly lock up, the mouse might move but nothing will work, sometimes the whole screen freezes including the mouse, sometimes if there is sound playing as well then that just loops really fast. Half the time it does this after about 5 seconds the screen goes black, and when it comes back I get a message telling me the display driver stopped working.

This is on a 2009 MacBook Pro with an nVidia GeForce 9400M. I just installed the latest drivers after this started happening, rebooted, and it's still happening (so much that it's almost unusable, and I've got lots of coursework to finish).

OS is Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, if you need any other information I'll gladly provide it.

Problem started when I installed DX11, then played Bioshock. The screen froze and the sound looped, and from then on this has been happening. It's doing it a few times every minute, and makes doing work and playing games totally impossible.

Help would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: Oh, and when I'm on OSX, and run this OS in a VM, there is no problem. And just to make sure, this doesn't require me to reboot, just wait 2 to 10 seconds every time. This might not sound a lot, but if it's freezing every 30 seconds, it's VERY annoying.

Okay, this might have been cuased by DX11. I'm trying to unisntall it now, but, no luck.

Not 100% sure why this was moved to crashes when I mentioned I don't have to reboot. It's basically lag, where you can't do anything for a few seconds, several times a minute.

with windows 7 relatively new especially running on a macbook i would like to bet this is a driver issue but at this point don't know

It's also possible the crash when playing bioshock may have damaged a system file so i would run
sfc /scannow (observe the space) by opening a command prompt with a right click run as admin.

let us know how it goes

I've tried updating all the drivers, and it was working perfectly right up until this morning.

I'll give your suggestion ago tomorrow, it's getting late.

Thanks for the response!
