Random Freezing with Windows 64 Bit home Premium

I built a system from scratch for my friend but he is plagued by the PC freezing at random times doing different things.

We do not ever get BSOD, it is always a frozen screen.

I have checked the temperature of the processor cores and they are around 27 degrees.

We have checked the hardware section in control panel for any conflicts, none found.

We installed latest GPU drivers from Nvidia, Motherboard drivers from MSi and updated the BIOS to latest 1.4 version.

Windows 7 compatibility program did not flag up any issues when it was run on this new PC.

I have downloaded memtest which I shall hopefully get to run on the PC tomorrow to rule out memory problems but it is memtest86 so I shall have to do it one stick at a time, hopefully that won't be a problem.

It was hanging before we installed antivirus software but it was not exposed to the internet prior to installation of antivirus.

We checked event viewer and whilst there was a lot of items in there, some crtical, none seemed to give any clues.

It has been suggested that I check the voltage supplied to the memory as the recommended voltages are 1.8 so I shall have a look at this too tomorrow hopefully.

Had a look at a lot of the other threads regarding hanging and drivers seem to be a common fault but given what we have installed I am starting to scratch my head here.

It's looking possibly like a faulty memory stick for me. Will report here when I know for certain.

DriverIan,

Try taking out all the RAM sticks and booting with just one at a time. Run MemTest if you need. That will help you find the bad stick.

If none of them work, try another RAM slot, could be a bad mobo.

Scan have tested my RMA and scheduled the memory to be replaced. This is the first ever faulty component I have received in my lifetime.

I thought it was a bad RAM module, glad we got it located.
