Windows 7 Startup

Hi all, I'm having an issue with Windows 7 Prof x64. Everytime I startup my computer - before the login screen comes up - I get screen that says "Configuring Windows updates 0% complete - Do not turn off your computer" which stays there for a few minutes before it cancels and brings up the login screen.

Does anyone know what is going on?

Thank you.

Rename the pending.xml file to pending.old in C:\windows\winsxs folder. This is the pending transaction file that windows update creates and is executed at startup. Whenever the file is there windows uses it to configure updates that have been downloaded during the previous login. Some updates need a reboot to take affect and are pending until so.

This must be done from a command prompt. If you cannot boot to safe mode then use the Win 7 recovery disk to get to a command prompt.

Edit-I just noticed that the transaction file may have changed to reboot.xml in Win 7. In any case click on it to see if there are any pending transactions in there.
