folders won't open in same window

i just recently installed windows 7 ultimate and can't open folders in the same window anymore.

i think i was able to before, but can't anymore.

went into regedit- hkey_classes_root/folder/shell/explore/command and tried to edit, but i think i accidentally erased a value.

how can i fix this...what should the values be for the command folder?

i think i might of also deleted something that showed up on advanced system care security analyzer...and no i didn't save a report.

If you did not screw up the registry this should work. If the registry is messed up, the best remedy would be system restore. Hope everything works again.

Try this

Open each Folder in the Same or Own Separate New Window[2]=File Folder Settings

yeah, i think i messed up the registry and really don't want to do a system restore as i've got tons of programs loaded.

as for the system repair, my windows 7 isn't exactly genuine and don't want to mess with it.

does anyone know what the registry value for opening the folders should be, or any other suggestions?

Welcome to SevenForums!

Go ahead and check to see where your last Restore Point was. A nice feature in Windows 7 is that you can scan for the programs that will be affected by it. You might not be so inconvenienced as you might think.

checked my restore points and found only two from yesterday, and this was occurring before the restore points.

i have another question regarding system restore...i had quite a few more restore points before, but now they're gone.

how do you keep a restore point from disappearing...is it possible to save a restore point forever?

regarding the folder problem, can't someone look up the values they have in their registry and have me copy their string onto mine or am i clueless.

the registry i edited is: hkey_classes_root\folder\shell\explore\command

here are the values i have currently:
(default) reg_sz (value not set)
delegateexecute reg_sz {11dbb47c-a525-400b-9e80-a5461a090c0}

First ty for your kind words.

You lose restore points in two ways. When the backup partition if full, you lose the oldest to make way for the newest

When you turn it off

But I think that you have more than two..Go back,c check again. Make sure you see and check the box, look for older points.

I have checked my registry, the values are identical, there is nothing to change.

no, i've got the show more restore points checked, and still only showing two.

very strange, i've only installed the os for several days, so my backup can't be full, and i didn't turn off the system restore.

What is the size of your HD and what is the size of the back up partition?

Do you defrag?

my hd is 250gb, and i'm assuming my backup is 9gb.

when i installed windows 7, downloaded 7 to local disk c: and erased the local disk d: where recovery disc was stored, so it's empty now.

regarding the folder, someone suggested i try to reregister this dll - %SystemRoot%\System32\actxprxy.dll
but i ge this message when i do:

regsvr32

the modue "chinese characters" failed to load.

make sure the binary is stored at the specified path or debug it to check for problems withe binary or dependent dll files.

the specified module could not be found.

while i'm asian, why in the world are there chinese characters in the message?
