So i updated my bios from 1301 to 1701 from the asus website. I have the M2N-SLi Deluxe motherboard with a Phenom 9500 Quad core 2.2GHZ processor. Windows7 was working fine in bios 1301, but when i checked my cpu core speed with CPU-Z program it said that it was only running 1GHZ!??? i wanted to overclock my computer but the max bus speed on bios 1301 wont let me go past 5x. so i installed Bios v1701 just fine (now the bus speed is available up to 11x). I didnt change anything in bios yet, everything is on auto/default. Windows actually loaded the first time but crashed like a minute later. I don't know the neccessary steps from here on. Sometimes it would get to the windows loading screen and not load. Other times, when i try to repair windows, it show a blue screen saying that i have some sort of a _USB error, and "windows shutting down to prevent any further damage", or something like that. What im trying to accomplish is to get more speed out of my processor. its only running 1GHZ!?? on a 2.2GHZ quad core process!?? that can't be right? I probably could just load Bios 1301 and make everything work again. but bleh.. want more speed..

any help would be appreciated.

I would start by going thru all bios settings and checking they are all correct.

I wouldnt overclock anything until you regain system stability

With ram settings, generally auto is ok but sometimes it can select the wrong speed/voltage/latency i would enter all ram settings manually as per manufacturers specs and check all other settings are as they should be

i fixed the problem by reseting the motherboard battery so that it couldnt read any operating system (only way i can load files for a fresh installation of windows7, usually it would just try and repair or get stuck on "starting windows screen" even with install disc). So i had to format the c drive, which it wouldnt let me do at first, i have no idea why, but i just d/c 1 of my 2 HDD and tried to format it again and this time it worked. loaded windows7 again and here i am. VERY SATISFIED!! went from Bios v1301 running 1GHZ to v1701 running 2.2ghz + now i can actually overclock for more speed, but at the moment im good. Don't know why i didnt get my max processor speed with the old bios version. CPUID <-- very useful free programs.
