BSOD Tip for others...

I recently upgraded from an ASUS P5A Premium P4HT 3GHz, to and Asus P5??? Q8400...

On the P4 platform I had 3 GB of ram... 2 512mb OCZ sticks and 2 1GB Kingston sticks.

On the new Motherboard there are for dimm slots: Dimm A slot 1&2, Dimm B slot1&2.
The book says that Dimm A is the "high speed" dimm...

So...

I original installed the OCZ sticks in dimm a, and the Kingston sticks in dimm b, the system did not light up

...don't worry the BSOD is coming

I removed the Kingston sticks, and still nothing...
I removed all the memory and got the appropriate post beeps...
I removed the OCZ sticks and installed the kingston sticks in Dimm A...
The system lit up!!!

I loaded Win 7 Pro 64 Bit... shortly after the first clean boot, the system BSOD...
I switched Hard Drives and started again, BSOD after first boot...

I removed one stick and tried again, everything worked perfect except! No BSOD etc....

...except I only had 1 gb of ram... hmmm still need to load software and HP printer

I installed everything and kept going. I later powered down and installed the kingston stick in dimm b slot 1

...everything is working great, and I have 2 GB (not enough for the virtualization and sandboxing I want to do but the is running).

Nearest I can think is that the ram doesn't support the DDR2 dual channel setup.

they are 667 sticks... hhhhmmmm, off to the store to buy new faster ram

...all though everything works, any other insight would be great.
