What made you look into the Event Viewer?

The eventviewer is a troubleshooting tool and not a place to go fishing in on boring afternoons. Unless you are experiencing any errors/ misbehaviours that you think may possibly be traced to this event, I would suggest you just ignore this error.

The eventviewer is a maze of info- good, bad and neutral. If you start examining every entry there with a microscope, it'll become a headache.

Danny,

I have exactly the same. You could try a manual install of the cab file by following the link in event viewer. You can also try disabling the WMC service. Searching google shows that some folk have success with these two solutions. It didn't work for me.

I reckon a huge number of folk have this error, but it goes unnoticed, unless you specifically look for it. I'll bet that it gets fixed in a short while via windows update.

I would follow the advice of Bill2. This error doesn't affect performance or function (not on my machine anyway), so ignore and move on.

Hope this helps

John

I noticed I started getting the same error a couple of days ago.

I was looking in the log because I am periodically freezing at boot up when it reaches the desktop just when it should be loading up the tray. At that point there is no cursor and nothing in the tray. All I can do is force the power off and then power on and it will boot fine.

However, I don't think it is related, just happens to be one of the last things I see in the log.

I suspect it will be fixed soon.

Danny,

Click the link in event viewer and save the file.
Right click to open.
Right click again on the file, choose extract, in my case to the desktop. Choose 'save' in the pop-up.
On the file on the desktop, right click, and choose 'Intall CTL'
The Install wizard should now be open. I used the automatic option. Follow the 'next' and 'finish' buttons as appropriate.

My own personal feeling are that there is an error in the root certificate, and it will take a wee while for it to get sorted. I personally would't bother, it didn't clear the event errors, but at the same time, it's not had any detrimental effect on my machine.

Hope this all helps.

John
