    256x256 icons occasionally bugs up.

So yeah, i was bored so i decided to keep my games shortcut kinda like Games Explorer (which i dont use, since it crashes on me and is slow) with big boxart icons... I made icons out of some boxarts i downloaded, and included some random 16x16 to 48x48 icons just for the sake of it..

However, sometimes the shortcuts refresh and some end up like on pic below, showing the 32x32 icon instead of the big 256x256.. Resizing the shortcuts or rebuilding iconcache doesnt help, i have to go rename the .ico file before it changes.

Does anyone know how to fix this? What am i doing wrong?

I'd make your icons with sizes 256x256, 64x64, 48x48, 32x32 & 16x16. I believe the system usually grabs the nearest size icon to it's viewed size it can. If I point to any of my made icons in my icon folder the info balloon tip tells me its size is 64x64. IcoFX is pretty good (and free) at batch producing icons. Why some of yours are saying 32x32 though if you have a 48x48 option in there, Gawd knows.

Ive made the ico's with 3 different program, tried IcoFX which is a great program itself, but it still bugs up, even though all sizes are in the ico... It works at first but after a while and the icons 'refresh' then they turn out like that.. It's random which ones does it.. Ugh....

One other thing you might like to try is run the Disk Clean Up utility, make sure that "thumbnails" are checked to be cleaned, re-delete your icon cache and re-start your system. If that doesn't work

    Hello everyone!

I have the exact same problem as REB and found this thread, which appears to be the only(!) mentioning of this problem in the internet. If anyone has any idea how to fix it or what could be the reason for this problem please reply! :)

I already unsuccessfully tried rebuilding the icon cache multiple times and added the "Max Cached Icons" entry to the registry.

    Greetings,

Thanks for the answer, but unfortunately the folder doesn't exist (unchecked the option to see hidden system files)
