Changing Logon screen animation

First off I'd like to say hello to all.
The info here is great for customizing many aspects for win 7.

that in mind is why I'm choosing to ask this here.

I'm fully aware of how to change the background of the logon screen however, I'd like to change the little blue ring animation.

I'm familiar with resource hacker and restorator but haven't been able to find where this animation is stored to make the desired change.

any help pointing me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. :)

Edit:
just to clarify. I DO NOT mean the boot animation.
I'm looking to change the small animation that displays while logging in/out.... the one that looks like that busy cursor.

anyone even have a clue as to where i should start looking at least?

with as much helpful info as I've found here before, i thought some of the more experienced folks would have been all over this one...

I haven't tried it (as the ring doesn't bother me), but it may be the mouse pointer animation as there is one of those. Have you tried changing those particular pointers?
i.e. the 'Busy' pointer and the 'Working in Background' pointer

while your reply would make sense it's not the case.

the two elements are similarly styled but not linked in the slightest beyond sharing a look.

I've had many different cursor sets in the past since the first beta build and they have never done anything to affect the logon screen.

any other ideas out there?
I've got this great black/red style going but I feel it's destroyed by that damn blue ring of tacky!

after quite a bit of digging i finally found it!

the "cylon eye" as it turns out MS calls it is stored in the "imageres.dll" and called from the "authui.dll".

I've come across all sorts of goodies for ripe for customizing in the latter of the two.
everything from the images that make up the user image frames to the little green selection arrows for the ctrl+alt+del menu and even the image that makes the blue shine for mouse-over the user icons.

every image previously thought to be uneditable (or at least i was beginning to think) is neatly tucked away in here.

It's rather late at the moment so I'm off to sleep

but i will begin my modding of the authui.dll tomorrow and report back my findings soon.

hopefully I'll have some fun screenshots of the changes to share.

Oh my gosh I was having this same issue. I do not like the Blue circles at log on and log off. So I am so glad I found this post. I edited the PNG and BMP files for the circles in the imageres.dll file, saved it and bam. They're gone. I used blank images of course for the BMP and a transparent PNG for that one. I used Resource Hacker 64-Bit (because obviously, my system is 64-Bit) and it's done.

Too cool.
