How do we get Win7 to open programs in a certain order like XP ?

I have been using XP for many many years and I have become extremely preficient at opening my programs in a specific order and know practically by intinct where everything is.

This accelerates my development considerably as I use multiple programs and go back and forth quite often.

In XP I could do this:

| Prog1 | ie - page1 | notepad - page1 | windows explorer - folder1 | ftp prog | chrome - page 3 | firefox - page 3 | ie - page 3 | notepad - page 3 |

and this:

| Prog2 | Prog3 | windows explorer - folder 3 | Prog3 ( new development ) | ie - page 8 | windows explorer - folder 4 | notepad - notes | Prog5 | windows explorer - folder 5 | notepad - changelog | Prog3 ( I often temporarily bring up a third instance of Prog3 for testing purposes for my collegues online )

^---- I know that all looks like just a random bunch of apps mixed randomly together but I assure you that these are indeed two of my five regular pipelines I use for my workflow

This process provides optimal efficiency for me and I would reallllly love to be able to do this again using Windows 7

On a side note; how can we bring back the quick launch behavior as well ?

Actually that one I found apretty sweet workaround by just adding a new toolbar of a folder of shortcuts to my taskbar; works pretty well

...

Does anyone know of way we can UNgroup like programs from each other so that we can open them in the order that we prefer?

Hello UCM,

You can try this to ungroup the grouped taskbar icons into separate buttons to be closer to what you wanted, but they the buttons for the same program will still move together.

Taskbar Button Grouping - Enable or Disable

Hope this helps some,

Thanks Brink! that does help a little

It's much better than having everything grouped into one single button.

Also i noticed in the images for the grouping examples in your tutorial that there looks to be a way to remove the titlebar text of the taskbar for the open programs

How can we do that? * curious how that would look on my machine *

UCM,

Could you post back a screenshot of the titlebars on the taskbar so that I'm sure of which ones that they are?

UCM,

You can't directly remove the text from the buttons, but you may be able to decrease the width of the buttons to hide the text as a workaround.
