Windows 7 - Deleting Fonts that aren't really "there"

Deleting Fonts that aren't really "there"

I noticed this morning when using Word 2007 on Win 7 x64 that I have quite a few fonts on my drop-down list that are in other alphabets: hebrew, batang, chinese, etc. Not sure if they have always been there or recently appeared. The issue is that they are not really there; when I select any of them I get a normal font something like Arial or a variation thereof.

When I open my Fonts folder through Control Panel, all of these suspect fonts are set to "Hide" and when I view any of them again I get something like Arial.

Where did these come from and can I safely delete them?

Thanks.
