Actually it wasn't pinned at all! First you need to plan a new toolbar.
Quick Launch - Enable or Disable
When following the guide for seeing a new folder created for the new toolbar and having that open in an explorer windows you drag the icon for the recycle bin right into that folder and release the left click. That will then see a new shortcut created since the recycle bin icon snaps back on the desktop. Right click to choose properties>general tab to back space the CP to erase the "shortcut to" part and hit enter to see that gone.
You can also change the default icon to something else in the right click on desktop>Personalize>Desktop icons where you see the two for full and empty. You then right click on each of those to selec the change icon option in the preperties screen using one to represent when full and the other for empty. First you need the icons that suit however for that change.
Once the new toolbar is added you leave the text part(folder name) visible depending on how you name that or hide by unchecking the show title and leave an icon without any text but a toolbar separator next to it. Since only one shortcut for the RB was dragged into that particular folder you won't see the separator that actually serves a dropdown list of shortcut when you have any number of others added.
For the "Trash Can" you would generally that by itself however!

Other toolbars here are for Utilities, System features, another on the left side of the taskbar named Quick Bar for those used more often, and cleaning off the entire desktop of any shortcuts while still having the ready access.
Once you have that displayed on the taskabr or even have a 3rd party addon called RocketDock installed you simply uncheck the RB box in the Personalize>Desktop icons and call it a day no longer being displayed on the desktop itself. The other options are simply to see a totally shortcut free desktop.
