    Quick launch / task bar

I have several quick launch icons on my task bar however it seems that when programs open or I launch IE it removes the icons and puts the open window tile in the task bar. Only if I right click on some of them do I see the missing icons. I have the bar locked but it still shuffles stuff around. Am I missing somthing or is this a normal function of W7.

Hello SoCGHOST, and welcome to Seven Forums. :)

Whenever I open a program from Quick Launch, the icon stays in Quick Launch, but also now has a icon for the default open window of it on the task bar. You might see if pinning the program itself to the taskbar may help instead if you do not have to many of them.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

Why not give the new pin to taskbar function a go. I believe its more versatile than the old quicklaunch as you can ping any sort of item more or less and some of the programs have jumplists making navigation even easier.

I have them pinned to the task bar, thats what I don't understand. I have tried everything I can think of, but they keep moving around.

Just to clarify. Do you have the program itself directly pinned to taskbar, or do you have it added to Quick Launch and it pinned to the taskbar?

If pinned directly to the taskbar as I think you meant, then usually they will not move unless they are dragged.

Could you also post a screenshot of this to see if it may be able to help determine what may be going on?

You know i think your right, it must be pinned and quick launch icon is present. I will check later tonight when I get off work. If thats the case I will get rid of the quick launch all together. Thanks, I will let you know once I give it a try.

I don't have quick launch on, only programs are pinned to task bar. I have a screen shot attached so you can see what I mean. The TF2 icon has moved and if I have multiple windows it goes away all together.

Ok, I see why now. It looks like it may be a bug when you have the taskbar buttons set to Never combine. Set it to Always combine, hide labels to see if it still does it afterward. If it does, then see if you can left click and hold on the icon and drag it back into place to have it then stay.

I get it now. I misunderstood what that feature meant. I thought that by having it group, it would combine the pinned programs essentially hiding my icons. I didn't realize they ment the open programs. I will change that and see if it makes a differnece. I am wondering also if I use small icons, if that will help with the clutter. Thanks for pointing that out Brink.

You could also unlock the taskbar and drag it up one more bar level, then lock it again to make it higher to get more room.
