The whole point is that you will lose the password box and there is no more need to "Login." You go straight to the desktop part of your computer. If you did want the password box... why are you looking at this post? But, in case you got rid of it accidently, just follow the same steps and make a new password.
Hi geosnipe
You must have made a mistake somewhere as you should keep the password box its just the user picture and frame that is removed.
Boot from your windows dvd/recovery disk and run a system file check to replace the original files - SFC /SCANNOW : Run in Command Prompt at Boot
Then try again using the edited .dll I have done for you below following the instructions carefully.
authui.dll.zip

For reference If followed correctly this will not remove the password box just the picture frame box. You are talking about logging in without a password that is different.

I thought that you wanted to get rid of the password prompt as well. If that is not the case, then forget what I said.
Everytime I've edited the Authui.dll files (I have 2) I end up with a black screen, windows can't log on, even in safe mode. I have to use a linux disc to go in and delete the moodified and rename the originals. So be careful.
This has never happened with the other 30-odd system files I edit and change. Just this one.
I've done this numerous times with no issues at all. For the sake of removing the logon picture and frame on x64 I have only ever had to edit the Authui.dll file in "C:\Windows\System32\" . If you have a linux disk etc I always find it easier to boot into that to replace the files then you don't have to mess with permissions.

Hi, first thanks for the tutorial on removing the frame it works great!!:)
I was wondering does anyone know how to center the password box and the 'switch user' button ??
This would complete my login screen.
Thanks
I did this and I only got a black screen and a cursor, nothing else. Maybe there have been changes to the OS since it worked :/
Edit: I don't know what was wrong but I solved it using the edited file xxxdannyxxx provided. Any thoughts why I couldn't get it to work with Resource Hacker?

It could be a number of things really, I tend to use a linux type boot cd or Hirens Mini xp Mode to change any system files so I don't have to mess around with permissions.
For those that want it the following authui.dll has the frame removed and the Ease of Action Center button removed also, and you can use this tutorial to remove the Power option from the Welcome screen also for a cleaner look. - Shut Down - Enable or Disable Shut Down without Logging On
Authui.dll With No Action center.zip
