Seems odd to me that..

in a folder I cant move folders or files to any location I want to within that folder, as in win XP pro. I could move my sub folders any where I wanted in my folder. I find it helpful, changing the icons as well. I used to be able to have a window at max open and move files or folders inside another folder to the right bottom or top left of the screen, and they would stay. Now they just snap back into place based on how I have them set, but no way to free them to move to where ever i put them. Any ideas? Thanks for any help.

Steve

Hello Steve, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You might see if you may need to disable auto arrange again in Windows Explorer.

Hope this helps,

Imperfect, thanks for your recommendations, but I went straight to Shawn's solution.

Shawn,
I downloaded your reg. files and it worked flawlessly. I am very grateful, as folder location and file location inside my folders is critical. I was shocked when I could not easily do this last week after receiving my new computer and Windows 7. I was trying diligently to accept this, but honestly I was having a hard time working as usual looking for files and folders. I am an independent contractor so I have set up my own system precisely the way I like it. In all these years have become accustomed to having my files and folders bunched by their relativity. I'm carrying on because I am so grateful that you took the time to write a solution. I don't know if you wrote the registry files are not, if so extra thanks, if not plenty thanks as well. My work will now become much easier than I initially anticipated with my new system. It wasn't enough to downgrade to XP, but getting used to it was harder than I thought. Now, I don't have to worry about it. Thanks again.

You're most welcome Steve.

Be sure to read the NOTE box at the top of that tutorial so you will be prepared for that if you should rename or move a folder.
