Windows explorer icon appearance changed when unpinned.

Good day folks,

This has probably been touched on many times - but I mistakenly unpinned the Windows explorer icon from my taskbar. When I dragged the Windows Explorer icon from the desktop back to the taskbar it has a different appearance. Is there a way to get it to appear as it did originally? ie the yellow files (out of the box).

Regards.

Try this.

1. Right click on explorer in the taskbar.
2. right click on the Windows explorer entry on the jumplist.
3. Select Properties.
4. Press Change Icon.
5. If the icon file showing is not %windir%\explorer.exe then browse to that file and select the first icon.

Upadate: On my system it is "C:\Windows\explorer.exe"

Another thought.

If you create the shortcut with the location of %windir%\explorer.exe it should pick everything up automatically.

Could you please tell me where %windir%\explorer.exe is located?

Sorry for the delay in replying it was bed time. I've been thinking about your problem

Did you pin computer to the taskbar instead? If so its easier to start again.

1. Unpin the icon from the taskbar.
2. Create a new shortcut on the desktop as follows.
3. right click an empty space on the desktop.
4. from the menu that appears select New->Shortcut
5. In the "Location for the item" type %windir%\explorer.exe
6 Press Next and change the name to Windows explorer.
7 Press Finish and you should have the correct shortcut on your desktop.
8. pin to the taskbar.

That should be it. You can delete the shortcut from the desktop.

Thank you for your replies. I have solved my problem, and very simply I might add. Although this was very trivial, and I knew the solution to it would be too - these little things bug me so I needed to get to the bottom of it.

The "Windows Explorer" icon on the desktop, which I am assuming is there by default - I right clicked and changed its icon to the "files" icon, then simply dragged and pinned to taskbar. Solved. If only I had of known that days ago.

Cheers.
