Problems with My Documents folder

Hello folks,

Few days ago I installed WIN 7 Professional x64 over VISTA Ultimate x32 on my C: Disk (Clean instalation). All of my data, including My Docs remained on my second D: Disk. After installation I tried to link My Docs from my User Shell Folder to "D:\My Documents", but I have made a mistake and link it to "D:\" !!!

Instead of My Docs Icon there, D: Disk Icon appeared !!! My Docs Icon disappear from my User Shell Folder !!!

I went to Registry, fix that and I found My Docs Icon in my User Shell Folder, but now it is HIDDEN !!! Now I can not un-hide it...

Please help me...

P.S. "Hidden" option in Properties is also hidden/locked! See attachment...

This may repair it. Open regedit.exe and navigate to the following key:-

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders

In the right-hand window, check the path listed under the Name entry, "Personal". If this is right it should say at the moment, D:. Change that to D:\My Docs (or whatever) and that hopefully will repair your document folder "association"

Hello Nechaux, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Do all of OPTION TWO in the tutorial below to make sure that your "My Documents" folder is fully restored to it's default location with the correct attributes of not being hidden.

User Folders - Restore Default Location

Afterwards, the tutorial below can help show you how to move that user folder to another location if you still wanted to.

User Profile - Change Default Location

Hope this helps,
Shawn

It is most important that you move folders to folders (with the location tab) and not to drives or partitions. That's when you get this sort of mess.
