Keeping things in the systray

I have just built a new PC and installed Windows 7 home premium 64bit. When I was using Windows XP MSN messenger, Skype and Pamela (an answering machine for Skype) where all in the the systray only.

In Windows 7 they are in the systray and the taskbar taking up taskbar space. Is there any way in windows 7 to get them to be in the systray only? They are not pinned to the taskbar.

Hello there, there's a trick with the Windows Live Messenger.

Windows Live Mail - Minimize to System Tray in Windows 7

NOTE: i don't know if it'll work on Skype but i do know that it works on WLM

Here's how you do it for Skype:

Tools > Options > Advanced > Uncheck 'Keep Skype in Taskbar When I'm Signed In'

Then you can close the Skype window and it'll stay in the notification area

Hmm... I've got the same version. It should look like this:

Maybe try a re-install
