Help ! DWM keeps Disabling itself

Desktop Window Manager keeps disabling itself

Ive looked on google only thing i found is this guy with the same problem but no solution -
Hacking Windows 7 beta problems - Computerworld Blogs

Its happened on a few different builds now, latest is 7232 x64.
Im running phenomII 940 BE on a DFI 790 fx mobo with 8600GT card.
    PSU- Antec 550W Earthwatts
At first i thought it may be an application like my antivirus causing the problem but ive tried lots of different apps.
Has anyone had problems like this with Win 7 x64
When i apply the troubleshooter it reports DWM disabled (no other problems) & fixes DWM for seconds to minutes but i always loose aero again.
    Please has anyone any ideas

is this right after a fresh install? Did you load any drivers or install any apps recently?

ive done plenty of fresh installs with all the latest builds released.
ive got a 25 GB partition that im willing to try another install
    drivers i install -
    ATI 9-6_vista32-64_sb
    nvidia 186.18_desktop_win7_winvista_64bit_international_whql
    realtek Vista_Win7_R227
    marvell setup_v10.69.2.3
    microsoft keyboard & mouse drivers
Ive tried all previous and latest drivers, doesnt seem to make a difference
Im not a gamer but it is time to upgrade my card when i get some more cash
but an 8600GT should more than be capable to run aero effects

Installed Burn In Test - Video Ram & 3D effect both Passed along with
all other hardware, how can i check the event log to see what could be disabling DWM

FOUND THIS ,Guy almost has same problem -
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/...0-726a1229b0d3
I checked event log it gets an error straight after restarting DWM
The Desktop Window Manager has encountered a fatal error (0x8898009b)
now i need to find out why ?

I am running 7100 64 bit with aero no problem and gaming with no issues.

I used the 64 bit driver off of the nvidia disc for vista install, the other auto install drivers from windows 7 make my video card cry havoc, and spit out all sorts of snow in games and movies are gridlined.

Let me know if you want the driver 32, or 64 and I will see if I cant grab it off the disc and upload it to a file hosting site for you if you want.

I too have a problem with DWM disabling itself which is incredibly tiresome.
I run the diagnostic (troubleshoot problems with transparency... from Personalization) and it reports it is disabled - the first time I ran it, the diagnostic set it active... aero effects displayed briefly (glass appearance) and then promply diabled itself. I followed the instructions to force DWM on from here: Hack to Force Enable Aero in Windows 7 My Digital Life and all was fine until my (wifes) PC started up after going in to hibernation mode.
I looked at the DWM variables that I created from the hack and they are still present however DWM (and aero effects) are off!
So, this is what I know... the hardware can do it (the diagnostic confirms this PLUS I have seen it running) but win 7 (64 bit) - for some currently unknown reason - keeps disabling it to my utter annoyance.
The windows 7 experience has confirmed that my next PC will definitely be a Mac - but in the meantime, can anybody shed some light on this issue for me... please please please!

    DWM service crash fix

hi all, had the same exact problem with Aero starting running for a second then screen flashed and service quit with error (0x...) and then of couse is not running so aero troubleshooter thinking dwm is disabled but its not.
Microsoft put out a statement that after looking at the issue it is caused by a glitch between windows 7 OS and some manufacturers motherboards with nvidia/ati chipset and have S3 power management. SO ... What I did to fix it :

    Disable windows desktop manager service
    Restart
BIOS --> change power management so that S3 is DISABLED! Only allow S1 (POS) power mode or all OFF
    Restart
Windows loads and ACPI notices hardware changes, allow reboot
    Restart
Start up cmd.exe as Administrator and type in the following
    sc config uxsms start= auto
    net start uxsms
BINGO --> aero is running and stable should never halt now..

I think the issue was that Aero service on start wants to briefly put the display device in S3 suspend mode just for a millisecond but when I went to properties on my video card and go to device details and then 'power data' it will list the power capabilities and it shows that S0 and S1 are supported (mapped to ON/OFF) BUT NO support for S3 (shows --> "S3-> Unsupported") so I think since Aero was some crappy little peon service yet had to handle a major unhandled exception by the big dog video card makes it just dump the error to windows and so service is stopped on error. I bet microsoft will throw a fix for certain S3 unsupported vid cards/motherboard/chipsets at some point (hopefully); though I didn't care not to have S3 cuz I use my system hardcore style so turned all that power management crap off. good luck..

i think i got the same problem

I updated my video card last night. Since windows notified me to do so, when i opened my computer this morning my windows aero theme was disabled. I tried rolling back my update but it didn't solve my problem.

Now my windows 7 has disabled sound and can't detect DWM(it is enabled but it is still detected as disabled)
