Change desktop Win7 Starter without program or fiddling regedit

Change desktop Windows 7 Starter without program or fiddling regedit
    Hi,

I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this reply and I normally don't post on forums, but since I have spend hours to figure this out I decided to post this and maybe it is useful to happy windows 7 starter users who are also frustrated that they have to look at the windows logo all the time on their desktop.

I myself am very happy with my eee 1015pem but was fed up withe the logo on my desktop. So I searched many hours on the web for the best way to change it. But all the solutions involve an extra programm running (I don't want that on my netbook) or fiddling with regedit.

I found this very simply way:
    1- go to C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper\Windows
2- right click the file img0 > properties > details
3- click remove all personal data (undelined below in the box)
4- remove ALL data (if you dont have permission; fiddle security settings untill you do)
5- pick a desktop .jpg you like as desktop image and place it the same folder as img0.jpg
6- rename the original img0 to something else
7- rename your new image to img0
    Done

let me know if this works (it did for me)

    Ronald,
I would edit your post with screenshots of a step by step and click the little report icon and ask for it to be moved into tutorials. :)

    Great work.

Change desktop Windows 7 Starter-NO extra programm-NO registry fiddle

    Hi,

I spend some time to figure this out so it would be a waste not to share where I can. In the attachment:

A very simple way to change your desktop image for Windows 7 Starter.
    - No extra programm needed.
    - No risky fiddling with your registry (regedit).

Perfect also for netbook users who don't want any performance loss.

    Cheers

    Hi,

    Yes, that should work fine.

I don't have starter - but isn't that the way everybody does it?

Thanks for posting it up , maybe it hasn't occurred to some people , so could be useful to them

@siw2; a big sat back in windows 7 starter is that the option to change your desktop wallpaper is disabled. most people need to use a program or need to change their registry settings directly with regedit which is quit a hussle. Especially for netbook users an extra program is something you don't want.

In all other editions of windows you just can change your desktop wallpaper the usual way. See also other threats & discussions on this issue. so unless I am terrible misstaking this solution might contribute to this problem.

it is still a pain to change every time you want to change it. i downloaded the program that changes it for you after i found the registry changes to be too cumbersome for someone who likes to change their wallpaper weekly. it really doesn't use too many resources.
