Windows 7: Hiding the "show desktop" button

Hiding the "show desktop" button

Hello,
I'm trying to hide the thin button at the rightmost edge of my taskbar (so at the bottom right corner of my screen). It is really annoying since I never use it so it's just taking space on my screen for nothing and kinda sticks out like a sore thumb.

Can someone help me remove it, all the websites I've came across on the net only talk about disabling the "peek" feature and never about physically hiding the button.

Thanks for your help.

Welcome to the Forum, Bacterius. This should work:

Be advised that it's been reported that your taskbar will have an empty space where the "show desktop" button used to be. You'll probably need to run as administrator to get the utility to work. More info at this thread:

Hello and thank you,
indeed, it removed it but did not shift the rest of the taskbar right to accomodate for the new space. It still looks better and I'll keep it like that, I'm still open to suggestions as if it's possible to shift the taskbar right. Here is a screenshot of the result:

(stupid imageshack requires registration for the direct link, yet another failure)

Thanks for your help Marsmimar.

PS : how do I thank your answer as I saw on other forums or otherwise mark it as best answer?

To the best of my knowledge (and one remaining brain cell), I don't think anyone has come up with a fix to fill up that empty space that gets left behind. Probably require some serious tweaking to the Windows 7 code. As far as giving someone reputation for a good answer, you can click the scale icon (the middle icon) in the upper right corner of their post. A small dialog box will open and you can select "I approve" and offer comments if you wish. The icon to the right (looks like a warning or yield sign) can be click to let the moderators of this forum know your question has been solved (or to report questionable content.)

Hope you continue to visit the Forum. Lots of information available here as well as some pretty nice folks. You'd fit right in.

Hopefully your ISP doesn't block Mediafire, I uploaded it there for you:
