    Change windows 7 library icons

So I've seen a lot of posts on this subject but the thing I can't find is how to use one from a png or other file format

it looks as if it HAS to be in dll format, but I have an image that is a png that I want to use for a library icon, but I don't know how to tell windows that's the image I want since it's not a dll

can anyone direct me to somewhere I can see how to take a png and turn it into something I can use to make an icon for my library, thanks!

Hello MaTax91, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Actually you would need a 256x256 pixel ICO file to use. If you like, you could ZIP your PNG and upload the ZIP in a reply post here. Afterwards, I would be happy to convert it into a 256x256 ICO file for you, and post it back in a ZIP. You could then use the tutorial below with step 5 to use the ICO file.

    Hope this help,

I would recommend to save it in one of your user folders (ex: "C:\Users\User-Name\Pictures") for easy storage, and add the full path to the ICO file at step 5 of the tutorial link above for the library that you want to change the icon of.

how to change a png to an icon

just download the "free version" of - Ico FX - no need to buy the full version cos the free version has nearly the same options than the full one

As an alternative to adding the icon to the library by hand you might like to try this. Librarian: A Library Manager for Windows 7 - Tweaking with Vishal
