Windows 7: permanently display only custom columns for all folders (old and new!)

permanently display only custom columns for all folders (old and new!)

What I know:

I can choose the columns I do like to see in a folder and then applying this view for all folders.

What I don't know:

Any new folder that appears under win7 will not have my customized column preferences set at the top. but rather the default, what windows7 thinks is the best to display the files within. which is irritating me. because I then have to manually deselect al the columns I dont like to see, and then select the ones I do want. which is time consuming.

Please show me a way to permanantly display only the columns I choose for each and every folder old and new!

That's cool and all, but it only makes them follow that particular template. E.g. if he edits the General template, any folders created to hold, say, music, will still follow the Music template.

One of the related tutorials should be right up his alley though: Folder Template - Default. Use fix #2, which forces all folders to use the General template. Customise it once, hey presto all subsequent folders you work with should all follow the General template layout.

Personally I dislike the whole let-the-OS-guess-what-template thing. Suppose you wish to have several different layouts for different genres of music? But the OS only knows one template for music. Ditto graphics. Movies, flash files, what have you. I'm tired of the OS playing guessing games for me, which is why I prefer it to stay dumb and let ME organize my files, thank you very much.

Thanks for the links, those tutorials were very helpful.

Hello Boredwithwin7,

Indeed, clicked on the wrong one! Sorry!

Still finding my way around the tutorials, but it is definitely much easier to point to one than to explain everything all over again every time the same question comes up. Have to be careful I don't become lazy!
