Windows 7 - Recycle bin icon won't update all of a sudden on taskbar?

I used this tutorial to get the recycle bin on my taskbar:

When I first did this everything seemed to go correctly. When I deleted something the recycle bin icon would show as "full" on the taskbar. And when I emptied the bin then it would show the "empty" icon. But something happened, maybe when I changed the icon or something and now it doesn't update. It just stays on the "full" icon even when the bin is empty and sometimes it stays on empty even when it's full.

Any ideas on how to correct this? I repeated the tutorial to see if it would work again but no luck.

I think that would be applicable if my recycle bin was defective in some way but when I tell the icon to show on the desktop it functions normally. It's only on the task bar that the icon does not refresh itself normally.

In that case, you might see if removing the Recycle Bin from the taskbar, and starting over completely from scratch to add it back may help.

Gave that a try, still nothing.

I remember I actually had this problem the first time I made it appear on the taskbar. Somehow I did something and it began functioning correctly. But I can't remember what I did to do that

It wouldn't hurt to give these options a try though. Toggling the icon like this can sometimes fix it.

For the Option One about downloading the reg file...will that alter any modifications I have done to my desktop (such as changing icons and such)?

It'll only restore the default Recycle Bin icon.
