Keyboard Layout Creator 1.4 -> no keyboards

A while ago someone directed me to the "Keyboard Layout Creator 1.4" in order to slightly modify the keyboard(s) I use.
I installed that software on two desktops running Win XP, where it ran fine (except that it gives me an error message, that "XP may be too old to function properly".

The other day I bought a new notebook (Dell Vostro 3500, running Win 7).
Although this is supposed to work better than XP, I could not manage to have the Creator display **ANY** keyboard layout - not even one I copied from my other machines.
I tried:
* reinstallation
* modify "compatibility"
* change font

but NOTHING I have tried to far makes the Creator display any keyboard layout.
Is there a specific trick to do this???

If there is, I would greatly appreciate any help.

The Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator for verison 1.4 and the System Requirements are as follows:

• Supported Operating Systems: Windows Server 2003; Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1; Windows Vista; Windows XP; Windows XP Service Pack 1; Windows XP Service Pack 2

• .NET Framework 2.0

It doesn't list Windows 7 as a supported operating system.
You might be able to try and see if you can install it in Windows Vista Compatibility mode.
If the program is not compatible, then you may try to install and run the program in compatibility mode.
Use the following steps:
1) Right click on the Program
2) Click on Properties
3) Click on Compatibility tab
4) Select Run this program in compatibility mode and select Windows Vista or whatever operating system the program was running successfully.

I also tried "all" possible compatibility options, without success. But then I tried out to change the settings under Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display from Medium/125% (my standard setting) back to Small/100% (the default), and this helped immediately.

Yes, I found a blog post by a Microsoft programmer (A picture that *still* can't be easily described with words - Sorting it all Out - Site Home - MSDN Blogs) that suggested changing the DPI setting. I simply increased it by one percent from the default (up to 126%) and the keyboard now displays.
