OK Pallas .... I am trying to make you see what I do with photoshop . I hope you have evithe and saved a gradient , which is from white to transparent .

First, make a shape as you want .

Then, then create a new blank layer and apply elliptical marquee tool on it, as it will look like this one .....

Now select the gradient tool, hold shift and drag from the top to the bottom . The density and depth of the gradient, the length of the strokes etc will depend on you :)

    Try it .

But with CorelDraw, the process is different .

Pallas, I think in Nick's 2nd example of your sig he has applied a layer of a picture of some shiny reflection too.

Arc, you rock Thank you very much for your patience and the little tutorial above. I feel really silly for not thinking of using the elliptical marquee tool - Photoshop Elements has that tool and a good gradient feature, so it should be no problem at all to follow the steps in your guide.

Britton30: Yes - that's a really neat touch of PooMan UK's :-D I hope to apply what I'm learning about glossy/shiny touches to your Air signature ;-)

I hope now you will be able to apply those effects perfectly

I have tried PS elements earlier .... it has almost all the necessary features , but it lacks the most powerful features - the blending options of a layer . All those effects could be done otherwise, but using those options makes things easy and beautiful .

    Hi Arc,

Yes, Photoshop Elements is a skinny version of Photoshop CS, so one has to take detours I managed to create an orb yesterday night, but it's not round enough for me as yet, so I'll be experimenting some more. I want to master the glossy/3D effect properly before I get started on your sig, Britton30 ;-)

Here's an orb, created this morning - not sure if the cast shadow's shape and position are correct, though

    That looks cool
If yoou have the psd file saved, make a few changes like pot the gloss layer a bit up, stretch it a bit to make the glossy position spread a little bit, and sclae the shadow a bit down, apply Gaussian blur there .

    Anyway, it looks fantastic

Thanks for reviewing my orb, Archie :-D I'll fine-tune it according to your suggestions :-D That Gaussian blur is really good ;-)

Here is a ball that you may study for the layers which brings a sense of depth thereto .

Thanks for the ball, Arc *saves image* I just modified my violet orb - here it is again; I added more gloss (to the top and to the bottom), narrowed down the shadow and added more Gaussian blur to it.
