    1. Control Panel\Programs\Default Programs\Set Associations
    2. scroll down to the .txt extension
    3. click on change program
    4. notepad should be showing in the box that appears, so select and press ok

    Try

right click > open with > notepad > save as > rename it to whatever..

make sure you leave .txt on the end.. if that doesnt work try it without the .txt

    hope i helped =)

I don't think Elvandil is up on all the W7 tricks yet .. And I can't try all his suggestions (yet)

Earlier, I had the same problem with the CCleaner shortcut, but was able to fix it by clearing the Icon cache.

I'm still getting the txt Thumbnails .. Even if I disable all thumbnail viewing.
I'm beginning to wonder about my "copy" of W7-7600 .. or is M$ tripping over themselves ??

I always do a fresh install.
I'm thinking about trying it again .. But I need a break first.

Thumbnails on the desktop in place of Icons is my second biggest complaint about Vista or W7

e.g... Since when, is a Thumbnail of the contents of a pdf file .. an Icon ??
    and now .. a txt file ??
