    Black Box on Desktop

    Hi everyone,
I have created a hidden shortcut on my desktop. It is completely hidden because I made the icon picture blank and I made the name that invisibol symbol and, I removed the IsShortcut value from my registry. And, everytime I start up my computer, where the hidden shortcut is supposed to be, in its place is a black box. Please help.

A system restore to a point before you created the shortcut should do the trick, I would have thought.

    Hello Jacob,

Removing the IsShortcut entry from the registry is where you went wrong. That was fine in XP, but in Vista and Windows 7 it causes many issues being removed. You could download and merge the lnk (LNK) option in the tutorial below to make restoring easier.

Default File Type Associations - Restore

Afterwards, you could use one of options in the tutorial below to change the shortcut arrow overlay icon to a blank icon.

Shortcut Arrow - Change, Remove, or Restore

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn
