Lock PC by Power Options not screensaver

    Hello,

I am unable to lock my PC via power options. Although I have set it as to lock PC, it is impossible to do it as per Windows XP.

The only way to lock it is through the screensaver, but this is not an option for me as I work 10 hours at an office and I prefer the blank screensaver to start in one minute and to turn off the display after 10 minutes.

That's when I want the PC to be locked, i.e. after 10 minutes and not after on minute after screensaver starts.

Is there any option to lock my PC through power options without choose to lock on screensaver?

If I understand you correctly, you want to run the screensaver for 10 minutes (ie. step away from your desk for a few and come back without having to unlock your machine) and have it lock if you are away for more than 10 minutes. I think the best you will be able to do go to control panel> power options>plugged in>turn off monitor> 10 minutes. Now go to your system32 folder and create a shortcut to the screensaver you'd like to use and place it on your desktop or drag it to your taskbar. Next go to personalization> screensaver and set screen saver to activate and lock at 9 minutes. Now when you wish to leave your workstation simply click the shortcut and your screensaver will activate, your computer will lock at 9 minutes and the monitor will turn off in 10 minutes. I think this is the best you can do without buying some type of freeware.

Thanks for your reply. I would like the monitor to go blank within one minute of inactivity without locking the PC.

Then if there is inactivity for 9 more minutes (10 in total) I want the PC to be locked.

    Is this possible?

Man this is a tough one. I can't think of any free solutions. But, this should work. Set blank screensaver to 1 minute (no password) and buy this for $60. ScreenKeeper Wireless Computer Proximity Security Systems
