    Screensavers and Monitor positions.

Okay, I am running three monitors on two graphics cards. ( )

I have a screensaver that spans all three monitors. ( )

My problem is, when the pc turns the monitors "off", it resets the monitors.

    (confusing)

I want my middle monitor (Monitor 2) to be my primary monitor, and monitors 1 and 3 to be extensions.

    Scenario is:

    • I let the screensaver run (busy on laptop or out of the bedroom or whatever...)
    • monitors turn off
    • I wake the pc up
    • monitor 1 is primary display instead of monitor 2.

is there a way to "Lock Down" the settings for the screen resolutions so they can't be changed by anyone or anything without the password?

[EDIT!] yes, I do have a bit of stardock stuff running, i love the eyecandy.

    Hi DrToxic,

It is possible that the screensaver you are using actually alters your resolution when it kicks in, thus breaking your monitor configuration due to the change in size. My guess would be that the screensaver is not able to return properly, leaving you to do it manually. Not sure that you'll be able to fix that other than only running the screensaver on one monitor. Perhaps someone else may have a suggestion for you on that.

EDIT: re-reading what you had written, if you disable the sleep portion of your power settings and leave the machine on with the screensaver running, does it still behave this way? I would wonder if it were also possible that your waking from sleep could be the issue. (Assuming it's in a sleep/hibernation state when you say "wake up")

Possible. I've just gone into "DreamAquarium" setup (screensaver came with the operating system. Windows 7 Ultimate (X64) Extreme, using my legit key),
and i've set all the settings for my three monitors.. so instead of it being automatic, each monitor is set for its own resolution. will see how that works out.

Individual monitor settings could surely help. Also if you try a different screensaver and it does not do the same thing, I'd think it would be safe to say that the aquarium screensaver is causing this.

Okay, I've run a few tests (i've let it go to sleep, then hibernate while I went to a nightclub).

    Result is:
the DELL UltraSharp (left most monitor) became primary again, my theme is stuck on windows Basic AND my graphics are as laggy as (insert expletive here)... Though I'm sure thats got something to do with the fact that im using loads of objectdesktop stuff for graphics that it has to re-load from the 4gb hibernation file.

I am going to scrap that screensaver and try with a normal one overnight. (Ribbons looks nice...)

    as for now, a reboot

[FAST edit] graphics have calmed down a bit now, 'tis smooth again. :) So I am going to bed... will be back on tomorrow some time to tell you how it goes.

Ran the PC overnight, it didn't even go to sleep..which was odd.. then again i left VLC playing all night.

the Ribbons screensaver seems to behave... my middle monitor is still primary, no resolution changes... that i can see...

Thanks for the advice, TCG!! +Rep for you
