Again, what about it? Please explain, IN WORDS, what the problem is. We're trying to help you, but we're not mind readers. What exactly is the problem with the defender icon? WHAT usually happens when files don't have a program that opens them up?

that file isn't meant tobe a defender icon, it should be a blank icon
Heres another example-

dagerman, your explanations are not enough clear . I cannot disagree that a pic talks a much, but it should be accompanied by proper explanation . BTW, I am asking you a few questions .

1. Did you try to open a dll file with winrar ?
2. What is the iconpack you do use ? Is it a stardock product, or a an installer script, or a 7tsp thing ?

After getting the precise answers of this two questions, we may ask you a few more questions , depending upon your answer, but it is possible to fix, surely .

If you want to fix your issue by getting back the default icons , that is the easiest one . Let us know.

Arc, have you read page 1, if so read on...
The winRAR icon isn't the problem(that's just what my computer tries to open a file that can't be opened). The problem is the defender icon, files that can't be opened are meant to have this icon-

Yes I have gone through your thread .... from the top to the bottom . I have discussed with a few other members with this one, too !

I know that there should be a generic icon for a file for which no default program is associated . I also know that a few icon packs can change the generic icon to defender/ shield icon . I have applied a few of those packs in my system previously . That is why I asked you the second question .... but you haven't answered .

If you answer my second question properly, I will try to proceed to solve the issue . But partial information may not be able to pave the path to solution .

Arc is correct, dagerman. It really is difficult to assist without a bit of an explanation of the problem. As he pointed out, if you used some product to customize the icons, I advise you to start by uninstalling it.

Then, this tutorial may help, User Folders - Restore Default Icon but I believe that the final solution will be this tutorial: Icon Cache - Rebuild.

Corrine, actually it is the exact situation for him .... the third icon of imageres.dll is somehow replaced by the second one .
Capture.JPG

It is to revert the situation . If it is known that what caused this misplacement, it becomes easier . If it is due to a pack, he needs to uninstall the pack. If it is due to a stardock customization product, he is to get back to the default icons . But if it is not for any of the such reasons (a mere chance though), it is to modify imageres.dll .

Modifying imageres.dll takes a time (Boshko posted the link to him previously), so the best option is to replace that system file with an unaffected one . As he is using build 7600, it is not easily available , coz almost all of us use build 7601. Still I have got one, specially for him (thanks to Derek) .

I was to know the appropriate reason , and then it is possible to give him the appropriate fix. From my previous experiences (personal and other forum members) I have seen that rebuilding icon cache cannot revert the icon group misplacement . But I will hope that it will work for him .

A while back I installed mycolors alienguise not knowing that it was designed for windows vista. I applied the Alienware Invader theme, but It didn't work I then applied the windows vista skin hoping to return my theme back to the win7 aero theme. From there I applied the original win7 theme using the windows 7 theme changer.
