Are you talking about these icons?

If so they are in the DDORes.dll in both C:\Windows\System32 and C:\Windows\SysWOW64 for 64-bit
You should work on copies of the .dll on your desktop using a resource hacker of some kind. After you have made your changes you will need to take ownership and give yourself permission so you can rename the old .dll and replace it with the new one
look at post #6 in this thread and it will tell you how

if you need more info or help let me know.

I managed to do it but I can't get the image as large as the orignal win 7 one, I've tried resizing it but doesn't seem to make any difference any ideas on how to make show larger if you know what I mean.

You are putting it in the right place Icon Group
How to change icon in devices and printers-res-hack-1.jpg

You need to make it 256x256 then it might look better, but you need to make the background transparent by making it a .png then convert to a .ico
Name: 2061.ico-1.0 (RGB, 13 layers) 256x256 GIMP.png

If you upload the image I can try to do it for you.

I have attached two zip's with the .dlls inside that I put your icon in make sure you follow the procedure in post #6 in this thread Basic Networking Information and restart when done. You may need to rebuild your icon cache Icon Cache - Rebuild
