I explain:

in my way to customize my windows 7 sp1, i change some icon system like:

batmeter.dll
pnidui.dll
SndVolSSO.dll

like many others time i became ownership of these files, rename these like .bak and put new file in C:\Windows\System32
Rebbot system and no icon show in system tray. I verify in panel active/disactive system icons and all these are inactive and i cannot change status.

Try following the instructions here.
Icon Cache - Rebuild

It should return icons to normal.

Do SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker and let us know what happened .

If it is not solved, we are to look for further steps .

Anyway, when you are modifying a system file/ applying a modded system file, the best thing is you make two types of backup, namely, a system image, and manual backup (copy and paste in somewhere else secured place) of those files . But as you have not done it, it went a bit difficult to fix it .

And fill up your system specs properly (System Info - See Your System Specs) , help us to suggest the appropriate steps .
