edit folder attribute columns

In windows 7, is it possible to edit folder attributes (metadata?) of a folder I created?
My mp3 music collection consists of many album named folders eg
The Beatles - Abbey Road
Frontier Ruckus - Deadmalls and Nightfalls

Looking at the list of album folders, there are other attribute columns labbled "date modified" and "type". I can easily add many more attribute columns but generally there is no data in those columns.

Specifically, I want to add the column called "genre" and edit in my data. I can then click on this column heading and arrange all the albums in respect of their genre.

Alternately, I want to add a user defined field to enter the same information.
Thank you, regards Stuart
