Hi, i am new to windows 7, the first things i like to do to a OS is to customise it , then tear stuff out, then turn stuff off. but with Windows 7 i get about 1 thing fixed in a whole day :-(.
Here is the deal.
I have ~125 startup sounds, so i do not have to change them manually ever, a small simple renaming batch file ripps through and renames them, this method is very fast, blind , and simple, and rather stupid :-) but what the heck it worked for more than a decade in windows systems.
The only method i have observed so far for chagning the Actual startup sound , At or Before the Log-in screen (not after log-in) , is to hack the dll.
It would be very impractical to hack the dll for many reasons:
1) the system is going to love to "fix" it
2) the system might decide to have a crap attack if it does a check of it before using it, not being able to log-on would suck, or say it thinks i am not "genuine" anymore.
3) updates change stuff all the time, so i can change it now, and then i get to start all over again changing it again.
4) ~125 sounds, now how is that going to work with a dll that is ~190M in size. only practical way would be an automated patching at each run. that could be done with a program that would re-patch new sounds, then go very Badly when the DLL is changed by windows.
7Forums has been pretty usefull in getting past the other spazmonic mutilations that MS has provided us to make the system better. so i think this is a pretty good place to ask.
Is it possible to use the task scheduler set a task for running at startup, and using a small sound playing program to play any sounds a person wants?
I have tried some stuff, but i have never Needed to schedule any task using the winders thing.
If you know how, please provide instructions on how to schedule the playing of a sound on system startup, that would play a sound at or before the log-in screen.
also is it possible that there are also "branding" methods for the sounds just like the picture? that have just not been discovered yet?
If any of this is already known please point/Link me, so far i have spent about 8HOURS just reading how to run the scheduler and did manage to get one thing doing exactaly what i want. but i cannot figure this out yet.
