    Windows Explorer - Several Questions

    1) How do you set "View in Detail" as the Default (I keep getting picture icons)?

    2) Why don't the picture icons (thumbnails) -- for whatever format bmp, gif, jpeg -- show the actual image rather than some other default image?

    3) Where is this default image originating from?

FWIW when I click on the icon, a window linked to IE pops up (IE is not my default browser) and shows the icon.

    Thanks

    1. Open Windows Explorer and set it to view as Details in the top right hand corner using the icon to the left of the "Show Preview Pane" icon then click on "Organize" on the right (Or Tools if you have the Menu set to always show) click on Folder Options/View and click on Apply to Folders. You might have to do it a few times in different folders to set all folders to do the same
    2. Again go to Organize/Folder Options (Or tools/Folder Options) and in the View Tab untick Always Show Icons, Never Thumbnails
    3. I think the default icons reside in C:\Windows\system32\imageres.dll
    Hope this helps
