How do I customize folder icons in Win7 ?

    Hey guys

I just joined and I was hoping someone could help me out. I want to use custom icons for my media folders, but I need it to be a permanent fix. Usually, when I set a custom icon and then share the folder with some one else the icon reverts back to the normal default folder icon. I know there's a solution using desktop.ini which I found here - How to Customize Folders with Desktop.ini
but I might be doing it wrong, because it doesn't seem to work for me. First of all, I dont even know to follow the first step (using PathMakeSystemFolder). And how do I make the desktop.ini file as a hidden system file ?

Could someone please explain it to me ? I would really appreciate any help.

    Thanks

    Thank you :)

I'm sorry, but isn't that for changing the default folder icon on my pc ? I might be wrong but I dont think it will help me in putting different custom icons for different folders ? Maybe if I explain a bit you might understand what I'm trying to do.

I have a pretty decent collection of old-school vinyl records which I've recently ripped and stored. I want to customize each folder with a different custom icon of the record cover. The normal way for me was to right click->properties->customize->change icon. But this is usually just a temporary fix. The folder doesnt retain its icon when I use the folder on a different pc. Any suggestions on how to get a permanent fix ?

The problem has been solved. I found a perfect software for it - FolderMarker
    Does everything I wanted :)
