How-to: aero.msstyle filenames to change toolbar color (7 Pro x64 SP1)
Edit: As Bongo pointed out, the numbers of the images are wrong for the original aero.msstyle. I'm using Windows Aero (Tahoma Font) - Vista Forums which changes the numbering. That means this should work for Windows 7 Professional x64 SP1 Eng with above theme installed. So stupid.
I've been looking for a way to recolor the toolbar without a third-party style editor and couldn't find much on the internet. So I did the work and looked for the proper files to edit and here are my results:
Images in C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\Aero\aero.msstyle to change:
709.png (size: 3x25px) is used by some programs (e.g. Windows Computer Management, HxD, Mozilla Print Preview) and folders in the Windows Explorer that are not optimized for General Items (i.e. folders optimized for Documents, Pictures, Music and Videos).
726.png (size: 3x25px) is used by the Windows Explorer for folders of type 'General Items'.
They both look the same. See attachment 2 (scaled by 800%).
1099.png (size: 3x50px) is used by various programs (e.g. SciTE, IrfanView, 7-Zip, Windows Calculator, Windows Taskmanager, TeamSpeak 3, NVIDIA Control Panel, Resource Hacker). The upper part of the image is used when the window is active and the lower part when the window is inactive.
See attachment 1 (scaled by 800%).
There are some more images that look like the above but I couldn't narrow down their use (727.png, 734.png).
Hope this helps someone and thanks to ixquick.com and the internet for their help on my way.
