    Reset Taskbar Icons

Hey guys, i hope you can help, my taskbar looks bad

I changed the default taskbar icons with some custom ones I've picked up. I've now decided they look gash and i want to reset them back to default.

I've tried rebuilding the icon cache. (Which incidentally, magically turned on my wireless adapter after months of it not working!)

I've also tried to reset the icon cache - both no cigar.

    Just for luck i also deleted the thumbnail cache (disk cleanup) and ran these commands;

Open the start menu and press
    CTRL+SHIFT+right mouse button
on an empty space of the menu.

    Select EXIT EXPLORER.

    CTRL+SHIFT+ESC
    opens Task Manager

    File, New Task (Run)
    type CMD
    Press ENTER

    type
    attrib -h %userprofile%\AppData\Local\IconCache.db
    Press ENTER

    type
    del %userprofile%\AppData\Local\IconCache.db
    Press ENTER

    Return to Task Manager
    CTRL+SHIFT+ESC- opens Task Manager
    File, New Task (Run)
    type EXPLORER
    Press ENTER

    Still no go.

Anyone have any other ideas? I'd like to avoid a system restore if possible

    Cheers guys!

EDIT: I managed to restore some through the 'Previous Versions'. But most are still not available.

how did you change the icons?

have you tried closing the associated app, un-pinning it from the taskbar, then pinning it back again from the original exe?

I changed them by unpinning, changing the original exe, opening the app, then pinning.

Yes, i have tried your suggestion. Thanks garbanzo

changing the original exe - you mean using a resource hacker to imbed new icons?

No, on the shortcut in the start menu and changing the icon (sorry i should have made myself clearer). I've changed all of them back in properties but they still show the wrong ones on the taskbar.

I presume that you've tried a simple restart of your system?
