New items added to Dock disappear after reboot

I hope I have placed this post in the correct area of the forum.
Yesterday I thought I would tidy up the icons on my desktop by adding some to appropriate areas of the dock by dragging and dropping. I also took the opportunity to rename and rearrange older icons already in the dock. All was fine until I switched on the PC this morning to discover all the new items had gone from the dock. The older items that I had rearranged and renamed had also reverted back to their previous settings.
Have I missed out something vital or is there just a bug in the dock feature?

By "the dock" do you mean the windows taskbar or the system tray?

Sorry, I meant this thing Windows 7 has at the top of the screen (when you right click on it they refer to it as a 'dock') ......

That looks like a third party dock, not something native to windows 7. Probably - Stardock Corporation - Software - ObjectDock OR About RocketDock - RocketDock.com There should be a setting to save any changes you made

Danny - my mistake, apologies. Just looked at the 'About' option and it is a Stardock feature, which is very strange as I do not recall downloading that. I had always assumed it was a Win 7 gizmo. I'll check the Stardock website because I don't see what I'm doing wrong. Dragging an icon to the dock, or changing the description of an existing one in the dock, should make it permanent.

Sorry to have misled everyone.

No problems but you are right. I use Stardocks Object Dock aswell and have never had an issue with it automatically saving and changes. You could try re-installing it from here - http://www.stardock.com/products/objectdock/ To make sure you have the most recent release.
Also just check to make sure lock dragging is unchecked whilst you add/rearrange icons. Right click the dock/settings/view.

Give that man a gold star! It is a Dell. I thought I was going senile as I definitely didn't download that myself.

Thanks.

Personally then I would remove that and replace with the full version if it offers nothing extra
