On-screen keyboard click-through trouble

I'm a severely disabled Windows 7 home premium 64-bit user. I have run into a problem with the on-screen keyboard. Whenever I'm in a 3-D accelerated game or application, any mouse clicks on the on-screen keyboard click through the keyboard and register as a mouse click in the application running behind the keyboard. For example, if I'm attempting to type in the chat window of the focused application via the on-screen keyboard, the first letter I click on the keyboard will type in the chat box. However, once I click a letter, the computer thinks that I have clicked through the on-screen keyboard and focuses on that area of the application I'm attempting to type into. It basically makes the keyboard useless. I have to re-click on the chat box in the background application for every letter I am typing. I hope this description makes sense. It's kind of hard to explain. Does anyone have any suggestions for this weird issue? I've only seen this in Windows 7.

It sounds like it could well be a Direct-X issue, however I'm not a gaming guru and can't solve the issue.

The remark is being posted as a possible clue to those who may know more than I...
