How to add a link to the 'open' dialog

    How could I accomplish this? Here's a visual example:Attachment 195994
What I want to do is place any sort of link (like the downloads icon) on the side where I've put a square on, because I'd like to just have the downloads right there. How could I do it?

According to Brinks tutorial here: Common File Dialog Box - Customize Places Bar you can only place 1 to 5 links on the left, you can change them, but if you want the original 5 plus the one you want, you will need a third-party app.

His link, and others are here: Custom side and history in Open and Save Dialogs

You would have to use option two in the above tutorial or the third-party apps because group policy editor is not available in our editions of 7, Home Premium or lower.

Thanks for the link Anak, but why doesn't Microsoft add a title above there that says 'places'? That'd make it far easier for me and everyone else to understand... I could have called this thread 'Customize places bar' or something like that. Good thing you knew what I wanted to do!

    Your welcome!

I don't have an answer for you, but I agree, it would have made it easier to give it a descriptive name.
Posting that screenshot was very helpful.
