    Moving library folder locations mistake, help!

    Hi,

    I recently repartitioned my new laptop so the OS is on the C drive and I'd like all the User/Library stuff on the D drive.

    It all seems to have gone well except for the Music folder which was the first one I did.

    I was following this guide;

    Redirect a folder to a new location

    and moved the My Music folder directly to the D drive without creating a new folder for it. When I tried to do the same with the My Pictures folder it threw up a warning, so I then found THIS guide;

    User Folders - Change Default Location

    I followed that for the remaining folders and they all seem fine and tidy now.

    However, I think I made a bit of a hash with the Music folder as, when I open it in library it shows all the other folders I have on the D drive! Not good!

    Hopefully, if I haven't explained this well, the attached screenshots will do a better job!

    What I really need to know is, is there a way to undo this?

    Thanks for reading.

    Mark

    Hello Marco,

    Use OPTION TWO in the tutorial below to restore the default locations of any user folder that you moved to the D: drive.
    Afterwards, it would be much easier for you to just create a new folder (ex: Music) on D, and include the new folder in a library (ex: Music library). Next, you could set the default "Save To" folder for the library to be the new folder on D. Just repeat all of the above for each library.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

    Thanks very much! Was a bit daunted by that but followed it to the note and it seems to have done the trick! :)

    Am a little confused as to the need for setting the default save location as everything so far (ie. itunes and downloads) seem to be redirecting themselves to the D drive successfully.

    I imagine if it DOES need doing, I won't see the need immediately but rather as I go on (or does it sound like a step I can skip?).

    Thanks again

    That's great news Mark.

    Setting the default "Save to" location is only for whenever you save/copy/move anything into a library, it will actually be saved in the included folder you set as the default "save to" location. It's an optional setting, but may be one you wanted to set of you preferred to have items saved to a specific included folder. That's all. :)
