Drive Icons

Hello everyone. Got a question regarding changing the hard drive icons.

I tried using the registry to change my C: drive icon, but it always comes up as Attachment 25740

I tried putting quotes around the path in the registry, I tried moving the icon to somewhere else, I did try restarting too. No luck.

Oh I used this tutorial.

Hello Steve,

Which method did you use, and what was the path that you used for the location?

Also, check to see if you have a hidden autorun.inf file at C: . If you do, then delete it.

Hope this helps for now,
Shawn

I used the first method, first path I tried was C:\Program Files\Common Files\Icons, second path I tried was C:\, third I tried was C:\Users\Steve\Icons

I do not see any autorun.inf or any inf's for that matter in C: (yes I am able to see hidden stuff)

Try Method Two to see if it will work for you instead.

Is it a 256x256 pixel .ico file? Go ahead and upload it in a ZIP file, and I'll see if I can get it to work for me to.

Ok, I tried Method One, and it worked just fine for me instantly. Here's a screenshot to help see what may have went wrong.

*hits head on desk* Wow I forgot to add the .ico part. Haha.. why wouldn't it recognize it without it? :S

Anyways, thanks Shawn, would never have figured that one out.

LOL, you're welcome Steve. It just needs the full file name including the file extension to work.

Hopefully Windows 8 will be able to tell what the user is attempting to do. (lets hope that feature doesn't malfunction, don't need my PC thinking I'm suicidal.. and try to help!)
