Changing out of windows 7 basic colour scheme

So i have had this for only about an hour, but it is really bugging me. I have also read through other posts on this site and they haven't helped. I used a program which changed my colour scheme to basic. This wasn't the first time a program had done that, but when i closed the program it did not change back. I have tried turning off the computer and that sort of thing, but to no success. I also have right clicked desktop, gone to personalize and tried to change it from windows basic, but it did not work. The basic scheme has changed my windows, so when i hover over an icon in the taskbar, the box thing doesn't appear, has changed my taskbar colour to non-transparent and my log on screen (or the screen when you hit ctrl alt delete) to a different colour. Sorry i don't know much about computers, but i would love to get this fixed. thanks

    Welcome to the Seven Forums
    Try this
Click on start button in the search box type Aero and look for Find and fix problems with transparency and check for problems.

If you have a system restore point from before the problem you may be able to back out the changes. System Restore

This will not affect your data but may uninstall some programs.

Look at this Mirror drivers don't support Aero effects
Go to Control panel > Device manager > Display Adapters is there any mirror drivers listed if so uninstall them and restart.

OK, apologies for my bad understanding of computers for this part
When i open that, i see BB capture driver (this was a driver for a screen capturing software, that i had downloaded a while ago but used very recently) and Mirage driver (I don't know what this is)
as well as my graphics card name.

About a year ago I too had installed BB screen capture software and lost Aero functionality. The problem occurred because windows was using the BB capture driver as the default video driver instead of using the graphics card driver which supports Aero.

To verify it was the BB capture software I disabled the BB capture driver in device manager, Ran the Aero troubleshooter Bongo refers to in post #2 which re-enabled Aero then restarted my computer a few times to ensure Aero themes were still working properly.

My final solution was to uninstall the BB capture software to avoid further conflict.

PS. I have no idea what purpose the mirage driver serves, others may know of its program association though.

OK, so I un-installed BB and its driver is gone, but the aero is still not working. I am a bit reluctant to uninstall mirage as it might be important -.-
Just in case it helps, the software that caused the colour scheme change was UtipU (screen recorder) and i had successfully ran it before without this problem, but a long time ago. If anyone could tell me about the mirage drivers that would help, but I am considering the system restore at the moment as a fried of mine recommended it and said that it shouldn't lose any files or things like that. Sorry again for my basic knowledge, and thanks for your help.

Another shred of information, i also run a laptop without this problem. when i go into personalize and try to change the window colour on my desktop, one says windows basic but the other says 'sky'. Now on my laptop clicking this brings up the option to change the transparency etc, but on the desktop it says 'window colour and appearance' and i am just configuring the blocky outline (so hard to explain without pictures, sorry)
In personalize i also have an option called aero themes which are accessible, but don't change the taskbar. (desktop)
